Liverpool hero Ray Houghton blames the transfer committee for Brendan Rodgers' demise.
Rodgers was sacked on Sunday and replaced by Jurgen Klopp.
Houghton told bwin.com: "I think it was the signings and the fact there was no accountability at the club with the transfer committee. At least if the manager buys the players you can point to the manager and question him directly why the signings haven't been good enough.
"If I'm being brutally honest and I look down the list of players he signed and say which ones have done really well and which ones have done okay, there have been far too many okays. If you're spending £25-30 million on a player, I'd expect them to come in and immediately fit in with the football club. Too frequently these days kids from all over the world are brought in without having a look eat their character."
