Girona defender Pablo Maffeo has revealed Leo Messi had a pop at him during defeat to Barcelona.

The on-loan Manchester City youngster man-marked Messi for the game.

Replaced on 78 minutes, the television cameras picked up the City loanee chatting to his teammates about the experience of taking on the mercurial Argentine.

"You know what he said?" Maffeo recalled, according to El Dia Despues.

"It's s**t to play like that."

Despite Maffeo's best efforts, Girona succumbed 3-0 to their league leading Catalan neighbours.
