Gabon have kicked off their home tournament with a 2-0 victory over Niger in the 2012 African Cup of Nations.
Saint-Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave Gernot Rohr's side the lead in the 30th minute in Libreville when he headed home Stephane N'Guema's cross to the back post before N'Guema added a second just before half-time.
Charly Moussono put in a nice cross for Aubameyang to head goalward which was saved by Niger's Kassaly Daouda only for N'Guema to fire home from close range.
The win puts Gabon, who completely controlled proceedings, on top of the Group C table, with Morocco and Tunisia to play this evening, ahead of their second match which also takes place in Libreville against the Moroccans on Friday after the Niger versus Tunisia clash.
