Horror stats: Chelsea's Roma humiliation hit several new lows

Chelsea's humiliation in Rome broke several club records.

The 3-0 thrashing by Champions League opponents Roma was the equal heaviest defeat of manager Antonio Conte's time in charge.

It was only the third time that Chelsea have lost a Champions League game by three or more goals. The previous two were 5-1 at Barcelona in April 2000 and 3-0 at Juventus in November 2012.

Roma striker Stephan El Shaarawy's opening goal was the first time that Chelsea have conceded in the opening minute since 1 December 2013 when Jay Rodriguez netted after 13 seconds for Southampton. El Shaarawy finished with a brace on the night.

His goal was also the quickest that Chelsea have ever conceded in the Champions League and the quickest scored in the 2017-18 competition so far.

Afterwards, Chelsea boss Conte lamented: "We could have scored after 30 seconds, but on the break we suffered the first goal. We then created many chances but we weren't clinical or ruthless enough to convert them, and then Roma scored with their second shot on target.

"What am I most disappointed about is the performance in the second half. Roma proved to have more hunger, more desire, more will to fight and to beat us. We lacked everything. Roma were the better team in terms of motivation and hunger, they won duels.

"There is great disappointment for our second half, because I didn't see positive things. I don't like to speak about luck, but in the first half we created many chances and we were unlucky not to take them. In the second half there is a great disappointment because it was really bad for a team like us. They clearly deserved this win."
