Honda not buoyed by Japan improvement in Brazil

Keisuke Honda remained despondent after Japan were beaten by Italy in the Confederations Cup.

The Blue Samurai lost 4-3 to the Italians in Recife, which essentially ends their time in the competition, but at least it was an improvement on their opening match which was a 3-0 loss to hosts Brazil.

However, CSKA Moscow star Honda did not see it that way: "It just feels so much worse after we played in many ways such a good game.

"No, it feels pretty negative to me. For us, the tournament is over."

Japan will finish the tournament with a dead rubber fixture against Mexico in Belo Horizonte on Saturday.
