Holmesdale Fanatics proud of impact at Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace's hardcore Holmesdale Fanatics are proud of the impact they're making in the Premier League.

Formed in 2005 to improve the atmosphere inside Selhurst Park, they have tried to maintain the terrace culture that was wounded by the introduction of all-seater grounds and make a stand against the commercialisation of football.

"We believed that by creating an organised unit with like-minded Palace lads, we could resist what had been forced upon all football fans and create a culture at the club that both we and the local community could be proud of," they told the London Evening Standard. "The young lads that had made the terraces such vibrant expressions of passion had been done away with. Attending football had become a commercial and sanitised experience. No freedom of expression, no passion allowed.

"We wanted to make a stand against the billions of pounds driven into football that had helped shape a corporate, money-driven game that has alienated the working man from his own sport."

Their colourful, noisy support has become synonymous with Palace. The importance of the group is not overlooked by Palace's owners and they met co-chairman Steve Parish last month.

"It is good to have Palace fans as owners, people who genuinely care for the club," they say. "That is an unfortunate rarity in football these days. It is important to have open channels of communication with the chairmen. We feel that these meetings are beneficial to more than just us. It allows for the resolution of issues as well as the implementation of positives initiatives or ideas that can benefit the entire club."
