Holmes helps Huddersfield to FA Cup win over Grimsby

Duane Holmes came off the bench to help Huddersfield Town get the better of Grimsby Town 3-2 in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.

The 19-year old American midfielder entered the fray at Blundell Park just before the hour-mark when the score was 1-1, minutes before Grimsby scored a second in the 62nd minute.

However, Holmes' dipping 25-yard shot in the 86th minute was tucked away by Martin Paterson after Mariners keeper James McKeown failed to hold onto the effort before Aswad Thomas' own-goal in the final minute, from Holmes' left-wing cross, won it for the Terriers.

Atlanta-born Holmes, who has been with Huddersfield since 2002, has now made 12 appearances for the West Yorkshire club - 10 of which have come in the Championship.
