Brett Holman was sent off as AZ Alkmaar lost top billing in the Dutch Eredvisie on the weekend.
The Australian star picked up two yellow cards, with the second angering he and AZ manager Gertjan Verbeek, as they were held to a 2-2 draw at Vitesse Arnhem.
AZ took the lead through Jozy Altidore just after the half-hour mark before Vitesse swept to the lead courtesy of goals either side of half-time from Guram Kashia and Marco van Ginkel.
Holman assisted Simon Poulsen for the equaliser in the 59th minute before being booked for a second time four minutes later as AZ were reduced to ten men and unable to overcome the home side.
The draw forced the club, who had produced a surprise Europa League win over Valencia midweek, to drop to second after Ajax had hammered Heracles 6-0 at home.
