Holloway impressed as Varney back to Blackpool best

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway is keen for striker Luke Varney to continue his run of form as showed by his display in the 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers. Against Rovers, he had two strikes ruled out for offside, but it was the quality of his display that so impressed his manager.

Varney is currently on a season-long loan from Derby and a strong end to the campaign could well convince the Tangerines to make the deal permanent.

"That was the old Luke Varney and I am sure he will make a massive contribution between now and the end of the season," he told the Blackpool Gazette.

"He has definitely benefited from a rest and that's what I gave him.

"I just felt he wasn't quite doing what he did in the first half of the season, when everything he touched was turning to gold.

"But no player, and especially not a striker, is going to stay in top form throughout an entire season.

"Luke was having a spell where things just weren't quite dropping for him and so I took him out of the front line for a couple of games.

"I had a chat with him and at Blackburn he reacted in exactly the way I thought he would. He was excellent.

"We just have to get him enjoying his football, and chasing and harrying. When he does that he is quite frightening.

"Unfortunately, he didn't get that goal. He only needs one to give him the confidence to fire on all cylinders. He's a great lad and I love him to bits."
