Holland sack Danny Blind as manager

Danny Blind has been sacked as manager of the Holland national team.

The KNVB (Dutch FA) have decided to part ways with the 55-year-old after their 2-0 World Cup qualifying loss to Bulgaria on Saturday.

Ajax legend Blind took the reins in 2015 after working as the Oranje assistant since 2012 but results in recent times, particularly missing Euro2016, has forced the association to make a call.

KNVB's professional football director Jean Paul Decossaux said: "We have respect for what Danny meant for us and for the team during his tenure.

"But because the sporting results are disappointing, and now proceeds with difficulty qualifying for the World Cup in Russia, we feel we unfortunately have to say goodbye to him."

Holland U21 head coach Fred Grim takes over as interim manager for Tuesday's friendly with Italy in Amsterdam.

The Dutch side now sits fourth on the Group A qualifying table for Russia 2018 with seven points from five fixtures, six behind leaders France and three in arrears of second-placed Sweden.
