Holland FA warn Chelsea off Van Basten

The Holland FA will fight any interest from Chelsea in their coach Marco van Basten.

Dutch FA chief executive Henk Kessler confirmed last night that he is due to open talks with Van Basten about a new deal once their Euro 2008 qualifying campaign ends in December.

A spokeswoman for the Dutch FA said: "Mr Kessler will start talks about the renewal of a contract after the qualifying campaign.

"Yes, the Dutch FA would like to see him continue - that's what our chief executive has said a few times."

Van Basten was pictured sitting behind Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich at Old Trafford during Blues' 2-0 defeat against Manchester United on Sunday.

But the Dutch insisted Van Basten's trip to Manchester had been scheduled before Jose Mourinho's shock exit from Stamford Bridge last week.

The spokeswoman added: "The fact is Mr Van Basten was in Manchester only to have a meeting with Edwin van der Sar."
