The USA national team has been defeated 2-1 by Holland in an international friendly in Amsterdam. The Dutch side went ahead in the 40th minute when Liverpool's Dirk Kuyt converted a spot kick after Wesley Sneijder was brought down in the penalty area by Jonathan Bornstein.

The Oranje then went ahead 2-0 in the 73rd minute through AC Milan's Klaas-Jan Huntelaar before US skipper Carlos Bocanegra landed a consolation goal in the 88th minute with a header from a DaMarcus Beasley free-kick.

New Bolton signing Stuart Holden was taken for x-rays after a strong challenge Nigel de Jong caused plenty of bruising on the midfielder's shin whilst Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu made his first international appearance for about a year after coming back from a knee injury.
