Holland coach Bert van Marwijk says Rafael van der Vaart has risked his World Cup place by staying with Real Madrid.

Van Marwijk insists on his players playing regularly for their clubs and on Van der Vaart's decision to stay in Madrid, he said: "He's taken a big risk.

"Though Rafael has had signs he will play, nothing can be guaranteed after what went on in preseason. He's made his choice, but will he play in his favoured position?

"He is just one more player there."
