Holland coach Ronald Koeman admits he tried to sign Memphis Depay for Everton.

Koeman made a move for Memphis before Manchester United sold the Dutchman to Olympique Lyon almost 18 months ago.

He revealed: "There are always times when I think that Memphis should act differently, but I have the same feeling for all other players. I'm part of the old guard in many ways, but you have to live with the times.

"I think Depay is a player who can bring more, he has a lot of qualities. It's a job I'm going to do with him. I spoke to Memphis many times while in England. I invited him to my home and I wanted to bring him to Everton at the time, but he finally chose to join Lyon.

"I think he has a lot to give."
