Bayern Munich chairman Uli Hoeness has launched a furious attack on Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil.
Yesterday, Ozil announced his retirement from the German national team citing the controversy over his photograph with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan as reason for quitting.
But Hoeness has scoffed at the explanation, telling BILD: "I'm glad we're finally finished here, he's been a drag of a player on the German team for years, and for the 2014 World Cup he won a tackle for the last time.
"Now he is hiding his s*** performances behind this picture, and his 35 million follower boys, who obviously do not exist in the real world, think he's playing fantastic when his cross comes in.
"That's a catastrophic development in our country.
"Ozil has not deserved a place in the national team for years."
