Hodgson would welcome managing British Olympic team

Fulham boss Roy Hodgson has admitted he would be delighted to lead a British team at the 2012 Olympics. The experienced coach has emerged as a leading candidate for the job after independent chairman of the Football Association Lord Triesman confirmed that he was looking for an Englishman to take charge of the side.

"I've been a major contender to be England manager in the past and never had the job," he told Daily Star Sunday.

"If you want to know has there been any contact from anyone about the Olympics, then the answer is 'no'.

"It is a long way off, 2012, but whoever gets that job, it is going to be a great honour for them.

"If it ever came about that people thought I would be the right man for the job, of course I would be happy to take it."
