England coach Roy Hodgson admits he may leave Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney and Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard out of his line-up for their Denmark friendly.
Both players are in the squad for this week's Wembley game.
Hodgson said: "The Denmark game is a game where I have to think very much about what experimentations I need.
"If we take Steven Gerrard as an example, does he need to play against Denmark to prove that he should be in the team against Italy?
"Would I be better off playing somebody else because I know what Steven can do and he has got 108 caps?
"Could Rooney be in the same category? And Joe Hart maybe?"
