Hodgson warns Torres he may be weighed down with Liverpool goal expectations

After firing Liverpool to their best win of the season - a 2-0 result over Chelsea on Sunday - Fernando Torres can expect to shoulder more of the goalscoring burden at Anfield.

The Spanish striker was important as the Reds bounced back to top form and their manager knows that if they are to win more matches, Torres has to be the man to do the job.

"Unfortunately, we don't really have the luxury at the moment to make too many changes. I believe in David Ngog, but it is difficult to put him in front of a fit Fernando in a league game," he said.

"We will persevere with Fernando, and I don't think at the moment he would welcome me saying to him he should have a rest and save himself for the weekend. He wants to be on the field every time, but you do have to be careful.

"I am not going to say he won't be feeling the effects on Saturday (after the midweek clash at Wigan) - I just hope he won't.

"I believe Torres will play well at Wigan and play well in all of our games between now and the end of the season.

"I know he wants to, and I know that he realises how much we as a group of people believe in him. I think he is the type of person and character who won't want to let anyone down."
