Hodgson praises Fulham players for avoiding Vetra "banana skin"

Fulham boss Roy Hodgson was pleased with their Europa League qualifier victory over FK Vetra.

Andy Johnson scored twice after Dickson Etuhu had broken the deadlock against the Lithuanian side to seal a 3-0 win on the night and a 6-0 aggregate win.

"I don't think the scoreline flatters us. We were good value for our three goals as we were in the first leg," said Hodgson.

"This was a game we were obliged to win because we are a team from a higher league against a team who cannot be expected to have done more than they have.

"But those games can be banana skins and I am pleased with our attitude, pleased with the quality of our play and pleased with our passing.

"They attempted to make life difficult for us but the quality of our passing and movement was a little bit too good for them. The most important thing was the way we approached the game."

Fulham join Aston Villa and Everton in the draw along with some of the big names of European football in Ajax, Valencia, Villarreal, Benfica and Lazio.

"I think we will be seeded. That makes life a little bit easier. When you get this far you get teams dropping in from the Champions League like Dinamo Moscow, who were beaten (by Celtic).

"We also get the teams like the Italians and the Spanish. We have got a big hurdle to jump before we get to the group stages."
