Hodgson pondering England call for Man Utd youngster Lingard

Jesse Lingard is being considered as a possibility for the England squad for this summer's European Championships.

The Daily Mirror is of the belief that Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson is contemplating the Manchester United winger as a potential option following the tournament-ending injury sustained by Arsenal's Danny Welbeck.

Lingard has emerged as a bolter for Euro2016 after it emerged that Hodgson was in the stands at Upton Park to cast an eye over the 23-year-old in United's 3-2 defeat to West Ham United on Tuesday night.

It is understood that Newcastle United's Andros Townsend is slightly ahead of Welbeck's Gunners teammate Theo Walcott but Lingard is also on the radar of Hodgson whose side meets Russia, Wales and Slovakia in Group B in France.

Hodgson was set to name his 23-man squad on Thursday but has now delayed that announcement until Monday in a bid to give those players under an injury cloud extra time to prove their fitness.
