Hodgson: Pardew hiring shows positive West Brom intent

Roy Hodgson is set to face his former side in the Premier League this weekend as his Crystal Palace prepare to play against fellow strugglers West Brom.

Hodgson was manager of the Baggies for five months during the 2011-12 season and highlighted that the appointment of Alan Pardew as the club's new manager highlights their desire for improvement.

"He's a good manager, he's an experienced manager, he's obviously been chosen to succeed Tony Pulis so they believe he's capable of taking them up the table which I believe the club deserves," he said.

"I'm actually meeting the last club I coached before taking the job as England manager - a club I would have stayed as well.

"I would have accepted their invitation to stay had it not been for the fact that England came and called me and I have a chance to manage to national team."
