Hodgson outlines busy Crystal Palace transfer plans

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson says the club must increase their depth in the summer transfer window.

The Eagles will lose Timothy Fonsu-Mensah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who will return to their loan clubs and Hodgson understands he must replenish his squad in order to avoid another season flirting with relegation.

"First of all, there is no doubt that everyone is singing off the same hymn sheet, and that's the important thing," he said.

"I don't have so much contact with the American owners, but I know there is no doubt that we all want the same thing for the club, to stabilise and be stronger, and we want to build and make the team stronger to avoid this constant flirtation with relegation, which we have had almost every year since we have been back in the Premier League, that worry of 'will this be our last year'.

"We don't want that, but we are going to lose players. At the moment, looking at the players we think will be there next year, we are a good few away from 25 to start the season.

"There are stalwarts of the club who are retiring, and we have [Timothy] Fosu-Mensah and [Ruben] Loftus-Cheek going back, and that is two quite important first team members.

"There is no doubt that players have got to be found, and I make it quite clear that we would like to continue the same philosophy.

"There are some talented boys in the U23 squad, but the only one really who has been capable of stepping up is Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

"But I rather hope we will get some help in terms of reinforcements and have a stronger squad, while retaining the nucleus of the team that has done well for us and played some good football."
