England coach Roy Hodgson has offered hope to Swansea City midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.
Hodgson worked with Shelvey at Liverpool.
"A player like Jonjo is always going to be in our thoughts," Hodgson said. "I do know him better than I know the two players I have selected this time.
"I've worked with Jonjo Shelvey and know him quite well in fact, I made him captain of the Under-21 team in the one game I had.
"So this was an opportunity for me to get a look at those two players, if I was to select Jonjo I know what he can bring."
