Hodgson not pushing Fulham's Zamora for England call-up

Fulham boss Roy Hodgson says he has not touted striker Bobby Zamora for an England call-up but rather commented that he could be useful for Fabio Capello.

After Zamora scored the only goal in the Cottagers' win over Sunderland last week, Hodgson said that the striker could be a handy player for the England squad but after he again scored this weekend in the 1-1 draw with Burnley, the Fulham boss added that he was not pushing for Zamora to be called up by Capello.

"I was asked whether there was space in Fabio Capello's squad for a player who comes in from the left - how anyone can interpret that as me saying he should play for England is almost laughable," Hodgson said.

"I've been a national coach in three countries and the thing I hated most was a club coach saying I should pick his player. I have vowed never to do that and I never will.

"There's an awful long way between saying what I said and touting Bobby Zamora to play for England."

Hodgson added that the trip to Burnley was a difficult one but was disappointed not to get all three points against the Clarets.

"Burnley is a difficult place to come and if I'd been offered a point before the game I would have been tempted," he added.

"But after the way we played in the first half I think I can be a little bit disappointed that we didn't take all three."
