Liverpool striker Danny Sturridge is desperate to be fit for England's World Cup qualifiers.
Sturridge has joined up with the squad at St George's Park despite aggravating a thigh injury during his Liverpool side's victory over Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.
He could now be in line to start England's two World Cup qualifiers against Moldova on Friday and Ukraine four days later after impressing Roy Hodgson with his early-season form.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is confident Sturridge will be fully recovered in time to face Moldova at Wembley, and the in-form 24-year-old - who has five goals in four games for Liverpool so far this season - is desperate to be involved.
Hodgson said: "I think he might be an example to a lot of players because he was so good for Chelsea in particular and even for Man City for a while; they accepted a big financial offer for him, but were reluctant to let him go as well.
"A lot of our players are in that position at the moment. They fall a little bit between the two stools.
"They're too good for the clubs to say, 'We'll sell you or we'll loan you out', but they face such stiff competition in these top teams that they don't get that many games.
"It needs a club to say, 'Look, I'm convinced that this guy is a 90-minute starter every week and I will pay the price required to get him' as Liverpool did, and then give him the chance."
