Hodgson has no doubts over West Brom coaches Downing, Kiely

West Bromwich Albion boss Roy Hodgson is happy to go with coaches Keith Downing and Dean Kiely.

He is confident they can now help him cope with the loss of Michael Appleton but admits over the long term, although unlikely to appoint another assistant head coach, he will be looking to add another member to his backroom staff.

"We're happy with the backroom staff," said Hodgson on the Albion website.

"We're now one less, which is not advantageous in anyway. But on the other hand we're not desperate or rushing to bring anyone else in. We're not looking to bring someone in between Keith and Dean Kiely.

"To be fair, Michael had the title of assistant head coach but the four of us have worked pretty closely together. There have never been suggestions of rank-pulling there. Michael took a lot of responsibility for the video work we do, such as the pre and post-match videos.

"That has now been taken over by the other two, which will increase their workload. Who knows? We might bring someone else in but it won't necessarily be a high-profile appointment at the level Michael was operating at.

"If we brought someone in it would be an extra person. We wouldn't necessarily be saying we are out looking for an assistant head coach.

"That's not necessarily the case because during the time I've been here both Michael and Keith have been working with me."
