England coach Roy Hodgson has no doubts over the temperament of Manchester United defender Chris Smalling.
Smalling was sent off in the derby defeat at Manchester City last week.
But Hodgson said: "That is his playing style, his nervousness and energy. Some players have that style, some are more relaxed.
"As a young player at Fulham Chris always had that intensity, which could be interpreted as nervousness, but I don't necessarily think it is.
"I like to speak to all the players and, of course, I'll speak to Chris but I won't have much more to say to him than Louis (van Gaal).
"He made a mistake but he's going to learn from that and move on and we will give him every help we can."
