Hodgson has £60M to boost Liverpool squad

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has been handed a £60 million transfer warchest.

The Daily Star Sunday says Hodgson can splash £30m in January's transfer window, after thrashing out the financial package in top-level talks with the club's new American owners, John W Henry and Tom Werner.

There will be a further £30m advance for the summer sales and Hodgson has earmarked the defence as his main problem area.

The Liverpool boss knows he is under pressure to get the signings right and said: "I want to make sure the money, whatever amount I am given, is spent wisely.

"That's so that at the start of the new season I have a new squad who I believe can give it a good go.

"We are trying to scout players of the highest level in the hope we can afford them."
