Hodgson happy West Brom defender McAuley named best afield - though Long will be disappointed

West Bromwich Albion boss Roy Hodgson was happy Gareth McAuley won man-of-the-match in victory over Wolves.

But he did admit Shane Long could feel hard done by.

Hodgson said: "Long was terrific and he must be thinking how if he doesn't get man of the match for that display, when is he going to get it.

"He probably thinks Gareth McAuley's family were in the sponsor's box. I should point out that I'm not taking away from a great performance by Gareth.

"In a way it's refreshing for a club to give man of the match to a defender. When I was at Blackburn, Chris Sutton and Gallacher had about 60 watches between them!"
