Hodgson had no problem with Liverpool interviewing rival candidates

New Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson had no problem with the club's extensive interviewing process.

Though Liverpool had a shortlist comprising Didier Deschamps, Frank Rijkaard and Manuel Pellegrini, Hodgson was always the number one choice of the board and he is relishing the opportunity.

"The club had a very clear process and they wanted to interview all the candidates," Hodgson told the Liverpool Echo.

"But as Liverpool had permission to speak to me so early, the last two or three weeks have been unusual and I was wondering what would happen.

"But I am delighted that it is all sorted out now. I'm absolutely determined to give the club success but all I can do is promise to work hard and do my best.

"It would be stupid to make ludicrous promises - but I don't think anyone would expect that.

"Put it this way - I will be very disappointed if people don't say 'he's working hard and he is trying to do his best for the club'. I would be devastated if they said something else."
