Hodgson explains omitting Leicester midfielder Drinkwater from England squad

Former England legend Alan Shearer has stated that England boss Roy Hodgson was wrong to omit Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater from the Euro 2016 squad, but Hodgson has been explaining his reasoning behind the decision.

"As far as we are concerned if you look back over the two years we have been working together, Danny was very much the last man in, in that respect.

"It simply became a question of do I take the extra attacker or midfielder? That's how Rashford came about. The front players, apart from Harry Kane - we wouldn't want to move him from a central position - can do the job (wide) in midfield we've got Sterling, Lallana.

"I'm happy I've got so many good players to put on the field. Systems win you nothing and football players win you games. If they perform anything like they're capable of we'll be a tough team to beat."
