Hodgson says he is delighted to have Lewington alongside him again, having worked with him at Fulham and England in recent years.
"From the Fulham days and the England days – a six and a half year period – we have got to know each other very well – and more importantly he knows how I like to work and how my practices work, and how he can help me to get the best out of the practices," he told eagles.cpfc.co.uk.
"He is a top class coach really, he could easily be a top class manager.
"He is someone I trust and someone I know the players will like, and someone I know is unbelievably diligent and honest, and cares for the club.
"He was the ideal person and I was delighted when he said he would join me."
