Hodgson content as England register Brazil draw

England boss Roy Hodgson was pleased with his side’s performance in their 2-2 friendly draw with Brazil at the Maracana on Sunday.

The Three Lions trailed just before the hour-mark when Fred opened the scoring before two fabulous goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Wayne Rooney gave the visitors the lead.

But Paulinho levelled brilliantly for Luiz Felipe Scolari’s A Selecao to make it two draws in four days following the 1-1 result against the Republic of Ireland at Wembley.

Despite conceding late, Hodgson was content with how his English side performed after being thoroughly outplayed in the first half.

"Some draws can be labelled victories and some can be labelled defeats,” he said.

"We were disappointed after the Ireland game, not to win that, and I suppose I'm disappointed today because we scored quite late on.

"But we were scotched by a wonder strike, I have to say, and I also have to say we didn't play anywhere near what we can in the first half and Brazil did, so it's a fair result over the 90 minutes."
