Hoddle: Why Hodgson won't agonise over axing Liverpool striker Sturridge

England legend Glenn Hoddle says Roy Hodgson won't agonise over a decision whether to take Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge to the Euros.

Hoddle wrote for the Mail on Sunday: "Sturridge may be considered too much of a risk but if he convinces Roy that he is fit, then Ross Barkley might suddenly be vulnerable. He's a wonderful player but he isn't in good form at the moment, while Dele Alli and Adam Lallana can adopt to the kind of formations Barkley can play in.

"Roy knows how much is at stake. He knows he has to get this right and that's why he has pushed the decision back. But he will make the call honestly and for the good of the team.

"I've been in that position with England at the 1998 World Cup. Paul Gascoigne's omission grabbed the headlines but others like Phil Neville and Dion Dublin missed out, and I felt the same for all of them.

"It was a sad decision but not the toughest I had to make as a manager. That's when you have to tell kids at Swindon Town they that weren't going to be offered professional contracts.

"So Roy will make his choice and then move on to France with his 23."
