Hoddle huge fan of Liverpool striker Sturridge

Former England coach Glenn Hoddle is a big fan of Liverpool striker Danny Sturridge and believes he can light up the World Cup.

Hoddle wrote in the London Evening Standard: "Daniel Sturridge is England's big hope in the World Cup because, if he hits peak form, Roy Hodgson might just have a match winner on his hands.

"Sturridge is capable of the unexpected - and that is a gift that is essential in World Cup football. Every nation that wants to progress needs a striker that the opposition cannot read and Sturridge has that in his armoury.

"Coming up with the unexpected can open up the door and can make the difference, sometimes when you least expect it.

"Sturridge has been given the No9 shirt which illustrates the enormous confidence Roy has in a player who has improved so much with his move to Liverpool.

"Sturridge has quick feet and that little flick he produced with the outside of his left foot against Stoke in early January to create the goal for Luis Suarez showed me that he has the gift to unlock defences when you least expect it."
