Hoddle wrote in the Mail on Sunday: "Joe has opted to step out of a comfort zone in the Premier League and that should help.
"In the Manchester City and England dressing rooms he has been one of the biggest personalities and his hyped, vocal style tends to dominate. Now he is a newcomer and he does not have the language, he will not be able to resume that role. He will have to take a step back and find his way.
"And that might help him. It might calm him down and give him another perspective. Where he thought his best preparation was to get hyper, he might have to be low-key and discover he is better for it."
