Former Tottenham and Chelsea boss Glenn Hoddle says Premier League clubs need to hire 'football consultants'.

He explained in the Mail on Sunday: "I meet people from a variety of business backgrounds and they value a fresh pair of eyes to make observations, recommendations or give advice on how to improve. It is then up to business owners as to how they act on that.

"It makes sense and companies in every sector — pharmaceutical, entertainment, technology, you name it — use consultants. Except football.

"In football, you have figures with expertise and experience on the outside of the game who could help owners stop repeating the same mistakes.

"They wouldn't pick the team, they wouldn't want to be the next manager, but they could act as an independent consultant and give sound advice so the manager's office doesn't become a revolving door.

"Premier League owners use consultants in their other businesses, so why not football?"
