Ottmar Hitzfeld was completely satisfied after leading his Switzerland team to a shock 1-0 win over World Cup favourites Spain.
It was the first time in history that the Swiss had managed such a result against the Spaniards and Hitzfeld was absolutely delighted following the match.
"I am fully aware that we have made history," he said.
"This will go down in the record books. The three points is a gift that we happily accept.
"It's a great feeling to start the tournament with three points against one of the biggest contenders for the title.
"These were three very unexpected points for us.
"I am very satisfied with my team's performance."
