Sunderland defender Danny Higginbotham is confident they can lift themselves away from the dropzone.

Despite defeat on Saturday at home by Blackburn Rovers, Higginbotham said: "I've been at Derby and Southampton in this league, but this club feels completely different.

"The atmosphere is completely different to be honest, it feels like a club that's on the up, instead of the threat of relegation.

"I really think we've got something that we can build on here. There's a positive attitude everyone has around the club. We'll do well this season, I really think that. Everybody is learning, but the most important thing is that we do it quickly."
