Hiddink ends Chelsea speculation with new Russia deal

Guus Hiddink has signed a new contract with Russia until the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

There has long been speculation linking the Dutchman with Chelsea, particularly as the club's Russian owner, Roman Abramovich, funds the coach's wages with the national team. But five months after initially agreeing to stay with Russia, Hiddink has actually signed the deal, which was due to run out in July.

"It took a while but we are all happy now," said the 61-year-old. "I can now focus all my energy to prepare the team for Euro 2008."

Hiddink guided Russia to the finals at the expense of England, who were third in their qualifying group.
