Tom Hicks is on the verge of a full-blown takeover of Liverpool.

The Daily Mail says the American has secured the funds needed to buy out co-owner George Gillett.

Gillett now holds the key to Liverpool's future ownership, as Hicks and Dubai International Capital jockey for position in a power battle that could finally be resolved in the next week.

Hicks still hopes Gillett will forget their recent differences and agree to transfer his 50 per cent stake to him for around £200million.

DIC are mindful that Hicks can veto any attempt by Gillett to sell to them and will launch a £400m bid to buy out both Americans.
