Hibernian knocked back in loan request for Sunderland's Stokes

Sunderland have no intention of allowing striker Anthony Stokes to leave the club on loan for Hibernian.

New Hibs boss John Hughes is an admirer of the 20-year-old Dubliner having had him on loan at former club Falkirk.

Stokes, a full Republic of Ireland international, arrived at Sunderland in a £2million switch from Arsenal in January 2007.
