Hibernian boss backs overhaul of SFA appeals process

Mixu Paatelainen fully agrees with growing calls for an overhaul of the appeals process in Scotland. In January, Scottish Football Association chief executive Gordon Smith revealed the system will come under scrutiny at the end of the season.

The Finn felt the club had a good chance of freeing Chris Hogg to play and, having failed, now feels an independent panel should review match incidents rather than the referee.

The Hibernian boss said: "I would recommend that process of appeal should be looked at. If there was a case to change it, it should be considered.

"We felt it (the red card) was quite harsh. Everybody agreed, Craig Levein agreed and even the player agreed it was a very, very strong decision by the referee. I thought we had an excellent chance of winning it."
