Hibernian appoint Brown as caretaker manager

Hibernian have appointed Billy Brown as its caretaker manager following Sunday night's sacking of Colin Calderwood.

The Hibs assistant will step into the top role and could be given time to win the job on a permanent basis according to reports.

Brown has been longing for a number one job after being Jim Jefferies' right-hand man for most of his 23 years in the management game, overseeing the likes of Falkirk, Heart of Midlothian, Bradford City and Kilmarnock, before joining Calderwood at Easter Road about two months ago.

A Hibs statement on Brown's appointment read: "Hibernian announced that Billy Brown will take on first team duties in an interim capacity whilst the recruitment process for a new manager is completed.

"Brown will take full control of the squad over the international break as they prepare for the fixture versus Kilmarnock.

"The recruitment process for the manager began this morning and it is being led by executive director Scott Lindsay and managing director Fyfe Hyland.

"The board is now focused on speaking with shareholders."

Hibs currently sit ninth in the 12-team Scottish Premier League and Brown's first obligation will be the home meeting with Kilmarnock on November 19.
