Hibbert defends Everton keeper Mucha after gaffe

Everton fullback Tony Hibbert has defended goalkeeper Jan Mucha after his gaffe in defeat at Werder Bremen.

Hibbert said there was frustration with the strike Everton conceded against Werder, but was quick to defend the part deputy goalkeeper Jan Mucha played in the mishap that allowed Sandro Wagner to net the only goal of the game.

"I wouldn't say it was a major mistake," he said.

"He's a goalkeeper and they always stand out if there's a little slip up - equally if they pull of a worldie of a save.

"I think we could have dealt a little better with the ball that came into the area. It got into the box too easily, and even if it looks like his fault I don't think it was.

"He's got a tough task. He's had a few games in America and he's had a half here, but it's difficult for him because Tim Howard is always going to be number one even though he's a good goalie.

"We've seen how good he is in training."
