Hertha Berlin's Brooks to forego USA U20 camp

John Anthony Brooks will not join the USA U20 squad in France for the U21 Toulon Tournament.

The 20-year old German-born defender admitted he was keen to play under Tab Ramos in the competition that precedes the U20 World Cup in Turkey in June but says club football takes precedence as he is keen to recover after helping Hertha gain promotion to the Bundesliga.

"I would like to go, but I need a holiday to recover for the Bundesliga," he said.

"I had just eight days last summer vacation. At some point, the body needs some rest. At this time, I'll not go to Toulon."

Brooks is eligible to represent both the US and Germany but was not invited by the German U21 side for the upcoming UEFA U21 Championship which takes place in Israel at the same time as the U20 World Cup.
