Atletico de Kolkata have taken out the inaugural Indian Super League title with a 1-0 victory over Kerala Blasters on Saturday.
The Bengal Tigers created history by clinching a dramatic victory courtesy of an injury-time goal from substitute Mohammed Rafique at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
More than 36,000 fans turned out to see the Sourav Ganguly/Atletico Madrid-owned Kolkata side perform below expectations for large portions of the contest with David James' Kerala dominating proceedings at times.
However, Kolkata performed when it mattered most with Rafique getting on the end of a Jakub Podany corner in the 95th minute to beat a despairing James.
22-year old midfielder Rafique, who recently moved to I-League club East Bengal from Prayag United, will forever be etched into the history books for handing Atletico the first-ever ISL trophy while the Sachin Tendulkar-owned Blasters will be left to rue what might have been.
