Pablo Mastreoni's first game as a head coach ended in a 1-1 draw for Colorado Rapids at New York Red Bulls on the weekend.
The former Rapids skipper took the reins of the Denver club just before the 2014 MLS season kicked off and he was able to secure a point on debut at Red Bull Arena.
New York star Thierry Henry opened the scoring with a diving 58th-minute header from Lloyd Sam's stand-up ball from the right but Colorado were able to hit back in the 72nd minute when Vicente Sanchez converted from the penalty spot after Marvin Chavez had gone down easily under duress from Jamison Olave.
After the match, Mastroeni spoke briefly of his side's performance as they managed to secure a point away from home.
"We were organized, and I think six weeks of preseason were validated with a good point here on the road," Mastroeni said. "I thought we played well."
The Rapids will get the chance to build on that point when they host the Portland Timbers this Saturday.
