Thierry Henry says absentees cannot be used an excuse for New York Red Bull losing 4-1 to DC United last weekend.
New York's leaky defense again conceded easy goals to make it 14 against in seven matches - the second worst defensive record in MLS - but Henry says a few injuries to the likes of Wilman Conde, Roy Miller and midfielder Teemu Tainio cannot be blamed.
"No excuses; D.C. played better than us. They wanted it more than us. You can talk about mistakes, not mistakes; they wanted it more than us.""You can always talk about the guys that were not there, but I like to talk about the guys that are playing," he said.
And Henry added that he always though the holes in defense would come back to bite the freescoring Red Bulls.
"The last five games we only lost one; put it like this to stay positive. But we have to show something (better) against New England. We had an off day at the office at DC, every single one of us. Hopefully we can change that.''"I've been saying it after the Montreal game (5-2 win) and the Columbus games (4-1 win), games we won, that this was going to happen pretty soon, and it did happen,'' added Henry.
