Henry eager to push through Liverpool takeover

John W Henry has welcomed the court ruling allowing Liverpool to discuss a takeover.

Henry's New England Sports Ventures have already seen a £300million bid accepted by the Reds board, but have been unable to take things any further.

Blocking their path was a court case brought by co-owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks, who were hoping to prevent a sale below their asking price.

They have, however, seen their efforts come to nothing, with a High Court ruling on Wednesday giving Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton power to push through a deal.

Gillett and Hicks have also been informed they will have to meet Friday's deadline for the repayment of their £237million loan from the Royal Bank of Scotland.

An issue which has hung like a dark cloud over Anfield for some time finally appears to be lifting, with the club able to look to the future with optimism.

That future could include Henry, as he is hoping a board meeting on Wednesday will see his bid given the green light.

For now, though, the American is just happy that the path has been cleared for a takeover to be made, and has offered his support to those who helped to make that possible.

Writing on his Twitter account, he praised Broughton, managing director Christian Purslow and commercial director Ian Ayre, saying: "Well done Martin, Christian & Ian. Well done RBS. Well done supporters!"
